Baby Quilt for Theo

Baby Quilt for Theo

I work with Theo's mom and just got word that her maternity leave is up and she'll be back to work on Monday...eek!  Fortunately, I had a little bit of sun to take a few photos this morning.

Have I told you how hard it is to find fabric for quilts for boys? Well, it is. That is, unless you're looking for themed fabric, which I don't like to use for quilts. I enjoy making quilts that aren't too age specific. Hopefully, Theo will be using this one for many years.

Being for a boy, I felt I wanted big shapes rather that a lot of small piecing. Based on a 3" x 3" block, I varied the size and placement in this "planned-random" layout. I supplemented the PB&J fabric line by Basic Grey with a few brighter and younger feeling fabrics.

If you follow this blog, you know that I love to do a meandering stitch when I quilt. Especially for baby quilts as it makes them soft and crinkly. I decided to branch out on this one and quilt diagonally. Don't let them fool you. It's not as easy as they make it out to be. It's not that it was difficult, there just wasn't a seam here and there to line up with so I never knew if I was staying on track. And I hate marking! In the end, it probably didn't matter if I got off track a bit.

In the end, I'm happy with it and yeah...I'll diagonal quilt again.post signature
